Meet Larry Hancock
Being raised in North Chesterfield, VA, Larry Hancock, has lived in the Richmond area all his life. Ever since he was a little boy, he always knew he wanted to own a company. He was never sure what kind of business he would want to run until he went to college at Virginia Commonwealth University. By going to an urban college campus, he often found himself in local coffee shops and thought to himself, “Wouldn't it be cool to own one of these one day?”
Legacy Roasting Company’s story humbly began on February 2014 in Larry Hancock’s parent’s garage. Using a grill purchased from Craigslist, rigged with a Chevy windshield wiper motor and a rotisserie drum, might I add, Larry roasted small batches of coffee beans and sold them at farmers markets as well as to friends and family. In 2018, he moved out of his parent's garage into a beautiful 1920’s brick building in Downtown Hopewell, Virginia. One thing that hasn’t changed over the years is offering a high-quality coffee experience.
Legacy Roasting is established on the 3 “C’s” pillars. Those being Christ, Coffee, and Community. Christ is their “why” that drives the company. Coffee is the “what” and Community is the “who”. Larry strives to not create a legacy for the company but the surrounding communities where he lives, works and plays in. Larry’s goal is to create a community of business model mindset where anyone with a passion of making a positive impact can do so. While he strives to offer some of the best coffee possible, his passion isn’t just coffee… it’s the people he interacts with on a daily basis. Legacy Roasting Company not only strives to create a positive legacy for his family but a positive Legacy for communities as well.
