Meet Rosa Lee Fry
Everyday moments don’t go unnoticed by Rosa Lee Fry. With bright watercolor paints and ink, she tells stories of familiar people, places, and things. She has been able to develop her illustrative art form since childhood while growing up in Louisa, Virginia. As she paints each of her images, Fry recalls the folk tales narrated by her grandfather. It’s those stories plus nature, animals, retro tattoos, and people that inspires her. She was drawn back home to Louisa County after graduating from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and Studio Art. Today, She’s able to share the stories from her childhood along with her art as an Elementary Art Teacher in her hometown.
Rosa Lee’s characters and images come to life from a little, carved out space in her home. It is from this cozy space she paints and illustrates art meant to evoke joy and amusement. Her expressive line work defines each image in a way that makes them believable. She dreams of one day being able to pair her illustrations with her grandfather’s stories in a series of children’s books.
When Rosa Lee isn’t creating, she loves spending time with her family, friends, her husband, Chris, and dog, Icarus. She’s also a high school tennis coach, freelancer, and wedding photographer.
